The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel criticizes U.S. District Judge Rudolph Randa for failing to disclose that he has family connections to the Milwaukee Archdiocese as he sits in judgment of the church's bankruptcy petition. Randa has relatives buried in the archdiocese's cemetery and has ruled that the church's cemetery funds are apart from the bankruptcy. The least he should have done, the paper says, is to reveal that information.

Milwaukee blogger James Rowen calls out the Journal Broadcast Group for being hypocritical by asking the state Justice Department to intervene in its dispute with Time Warner Cable. The group unabashedly hosts over-the-top anti-government talk show hosts on its radio station, but now turns to the government when it needs some help, he says.

In its Friday wrap-up, the Racine Journal Times gives kudos to Gov. Scott Walker for firing Steven Krieser, the Department of Transportation official who disparaged illegal immigrants in a Facebook posting. The paper credits Walker with acting quickly when he learned of the racist screed that his appointee had written.

The Oshkosh Northwestern posts a guest editorial today from a Maryland paper criticizing the Missouri State Fair clown who performed what it calls an over the top parody of President Obama. It went beyond poking fun, the edit insists.

In a piece for The Progressive magazine's blog, Jeff Taylor recounts the history of Wisconsin's La Follette progressives and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Although FDR was a Democrat, the progressive wing of the Republican Party became staunch supporters of him, Taylor notes.

Wisconsin's U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson ought to listen to Newt Gingrich, proclaims blogger Greg Humphrey. He notes that Gingrich has condemned the new "GOP culture" that calls for opposing everything without any positive ideas of its own. And that's exactly the way Johnson behaves, the blogger insinuates.

Blogger Jeff Simpson posts a recounting of Rep. Paul Ryan's statements that he says show the congressman changing his mind quite often. He's usually for something before he's against it, Simpson remarks.

For those who want to get a closer look at how Madison's budget is put together, Brenda Konkel today posts initial budget requests from four city departments. The requests detail how the departments plan to use their money.
