Louis priest will spend the next three years in federal prison for possession of child pornography.

Father William Vatterott, 37, pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 37 months in jail by U.S. District Judge E. Richard Webber.

The allegations stemmed from an investigation by the Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in which Vatterott was said to have possessed child porn between June 2010 and June 2011.

The St. Louis Archdiocese placed Vatterott on administrative leave from St. Cecilia after being informed about an incident involving underaged drinking. The Archdiocese says at that time, there was no mention of child pornography, but did cooperate with the investigation.

In a statement released on Friday, the Archdiocese said, “Child pornography is a sin and it is a crime. The Archdiocese fully supports the prosecution of crimes against children. Today, we pray for the safety and dignity of all children in our archdiocese and around the world.”
