Victims and survivors have been asked to come forward by 29 November.

The chair of the Historical Institutional Abuse Inquiry has revealed the list of the 13 institutions which are currently under investigation in Northern Ireland.

Speaking at a press briefing on Wednesday, Sir Anthony Hart said the inquiry will not accept witness applications past Friday 29 November this year.

The deadline has been put in place to ensure the first public hearings into cases will begin in January.

"I therefore urge anyone who is thinking of making an application to contact us as soon as possible and not to leave it until the last minute, or until it is too late," he said.

The head of the inquiry said that if anyone gets in contact after the closing date, they will try to arrange for them to recount their experiences to the Acknowledgement Forum even though they may be too late to be seen by the legal team.

The inquiry was set up last year by the Stormont Executive and is looking into abuse in local care homes between 1922 and 1995.

The hearings are required under legislation to conclude by mid June 2015, with a report delivered by January 2016.

A total of 363 witnesses have now contacted investigators, the majority of them from NI, but also a significant number from Australia and some from Great Britain and Ireland.

The inquiry team will travel to Australia next month to speak to 57 people there who have made applications.

A list of institutions that are under investigation was revealed for the first time. Sir Anthony said the list is not finalised.
