David Samuel Cyprys was employed as a karate instructor and security guard at Yeshiva College when he abused some of the students.

A FORMER security guard of an exclusive orthodox Jewish college assaulted nine students there, it can now be revealed.

David Samuel Cyprys, 44, was employed as a karate instructor and security guard at prominent Yeshiva College when he abused some of the students.

Other students were abused while Cyprys was on a youth camp organised by the Yeshiva Centre.

The Herald Sun can today reveal Cyprys was continued working at the school despite being found guilty of indecent assault in 1991.

Cyprys was fined $1500 and placed on a good behaviour bond, without conviction, after appearing at the Prahran Magistrates Court in 1992.

Cyprys was later charged with more than 40 offences spanning the 1980s and 1990s against children aged between seven and 17.

He has been standing trial in the County Court since last month but a blanket suppression order prevented any details of the proceedings being reported.

It can now be revealed Cyprys, who was set to face three separate trials, was found guilty by a jury of five charges of rape against one former student after the order was this morning revoked.

Cyprys pleaded guilty to a further 12 assault-related charges against eight other complainants.

It is the latest in a string of child sex scandals to rock the college. In July former teacher David Kramer was jailed for "unforgivable" crimes on four students at the school.

The 53-year-old pedophile was the first member of a Jewish institution in Australia to have admitted - and been sentenced for - child sex crimes.

Kramer pleaded guilty to molesting four boys while teaching at Yeshiva College in the early 1990s before fleeing to the US, where he was jailed for further offending.

The school has come under fire for allegedly covering up sickening crimes against children.

Senior officials have publicly admitted they helped Kramer flee Australia after rumours started circulating that he had abused students.

Shortly after Cyprys's arrest in late 2011 police hit out at some members of Melbourne's orthodox Jewish community saying they had actively tried to protect Cyprys from authorities.

Giving evidence at a bail application hearing informant Senior Detective Lisa Metcher told the Melbourne Magistrates Court sections of the Jewish community had hindered the police investigation.

"They have failed to act in any way to protect the children and the matters have been swept under the carpet," Sen Det Metcher said "Lies have been told to police ... information has been twisted or covered up," she said.

Former principal Rabbi Abrham Glick last year admitted he knew in the early 2000s of rumours that Cyrprys had abused students.

Rabbi Glick was in charge of the college between 1986 and 2007 and still holds one of the most senior positions at the school.

Cyprys has returned to court today for a plea hearing.

The matter continues.
