DNA Results Absolve Catholic Priest of Paternity Accusation

A Catholic priest who was sued by a woman in Mombasa for allegedly siring a child with her 14 years ago now wants the case against him dismissed.

Father Josephat Mweu Mwanzia wants the case filed by Syovinya Cecilia Mbiki dismissed after DNA tests done in South Africa and Kenya exonerated him from blame.

Monday lawyer Kiunga Kingirwa for Fr Mwanzia told Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Betty Koech that the case against his client should now be dismissed on grounds that there is no evidence against him.

He said laboratory reports from The Karen Hospital in Nairobi and Pathcare Paternity laboratory in South Africa had clearly shown that his client was not the biological father of the child in question.

But Mbiki’s lawyer Christine Kipsang disputed the negative DNA test results and demanded another test alleging that her client was sure Mwanzia was the father of her child.

In her response, the magistrate ordered both parties to file their applications formally in the court so that they can be determined instead of making oral applications.

But in a turn of events, a brother to Mwanzia, Clement Mutuku Joseph has filed a protest affidavit in the court claiming he is the biological father of the child in question.

He claims he was the one who had an affair with Mbiki and he was still ready to take her as his wife.

Mutuku claims that in 1997 he was employed by his aunt as a driver when Mbiki was also employed as a housemaid.

He said during this time, he used to have an affair with the woman and his brother often came to visit him and the three of them shared a room.
