Police who interviewed Jimmy Savile over child sex abuse claims four years ago told prosecutors to drop the case against the paedophile, newly released files reveal. The swaggering pervert was interviewed under caution at Stoke Mandeville hospital, one of several locations where he is believed to have targeted victims in decades of abuse – yet was allowed to walk free. He was asked about claims he assaulted one girl at the hospital and two others who were residents at Duncroft Approved School for Girls in Staines, Surrey, in the 1970s. The interview was one of the best chances of catching Britain’s most prolific paedophile, who died two years later in 2011. But notes scrawled by cops during the 41-minute interview show they took an almost deferential approach to the suspect, named on the papers as Sir James Wilson Savile. The notes on one victim’s claim read: “They attended a concert at Stoke Mandeville Hospital...As she left he kissed her on the lips and put his tongue in her mouth.” Referring to another girl who Savile allegedly touched over her clothes, the notes state: “He would tell her he would buy her chocolates when she was 16.” The officer had written: “Tell me what you know about any of these reported allegations.” But Savile, then 83, was allowed to give vague answers, often just a simple “no”. Under a question asking if he got “sexual gratification from this girl touching your groin area” the answer was: “Out of the Q. Never happened.” Evil Savile even accused his alleged victims of making up the claims to get his money, and told cops he would sue them if he was prosecuted. Days later, cops advised the Crown Prosecution Service not to pursue the claims, writing: “He stated that due to who he was and what he’s done on TV and radio, he attracts these types of allegations and he believes they are from women wanting money.”
