The priest, who was immediately dismissed by the bishop of the diocese as the scandal surfaced, but for “health reasons”, allegedly used money from a nearby convent to pay for sex with the young Moroccan, Il Gazzettino reported.

The pair had a "long-standing relationship", the newspaper said.

In September last year, an Italian priest from Turin admitted paying a Romanian woman ˆ350,000 after she threatened to expose him for having sex with her, La Repubblica reported.

The priest confessed to paying the woman, who was homeless, for sex when they met in 2009. When he tried to end the relationship, she threatened to expose him through “photos and video”, unless he continued to pay her.
