Coming down heavily on the Congress party, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy today alleged that Sonia Gandhi has secret accounts in foreign banks.

Speaking to reporters here, Swamy said that Gandhi has three accounts with a total worth of Rs 1.5 lakh crore in foreign banks and added that the Congress president withdrew $10 billion from a Vatican bank recently, said Swamy.

Gandhi withdrew the amount from the Vatican-based bank after Pope Francis recently declared that all accounts in banks based in the city state disclose the name of the account holder.

According to Swamy, Gandhi allegedly has accounts in one bank in Vatican, besides two Swiss banks – Sarasin in Basel and Pictet Bank in Zurich.

The firebrand saffron leader reiterated his party’s commitment of bringing back to the country black money stashed abroad by Indians.

Accusing the Congress of playing ‘divisive politics’, Swami said that the ruling party is becoming apprehensive as many members of the minority community have started supporting the BJP.

Swamy said while the former NDA regime created 60.7 million jobs during its six-year rule, the UPA regime could create only 15.4 million new jobs during its first 8 years in office.

“Between 1951 and 1997, 263 km of new roads were built per year. In the six years of NDA regime alone, 4,467 km of new roads came up each year and this fell to only 1,406 km per year during the first 8 years of the UPA government,” he said.

Swamy said while the rupee stood at around Rs 49 to the US dollar when NDA government left power in 2004, now the value of the Indian currency against the greenbuck has fallen by a huge margin.

“The fiscal deficit was 4.3 per cent of GDP during the first year of UPA rule. Now it has risen to 7 per cent of GDP, if we subtract the money which came from sale of the 2G spectrum,” said the BJP leader.
