ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

The deposition transcript of Former Vicar General Kevin McDonough was released Thursday by attorneys representing victims of alleged sexual abuse by priests.

At a news conference, attorneys for the victims called Rev. McDonough – the man in charge of handling abuse allegations within Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis – a “master of half-truths.”

In the deposition, McDonough admitted he declined to speak with St. Paul police investigators and declined to be interviewed by a vicar-appointed task force charged with reviewing archdiocese policies and procedures.

An attorney for the victims said the archdiocese cut McDonough’s deposition short, at 6 1/2 hours instead of 8, apparently subtracting for lunch and breaks. McDonough defended his decision to not speak with investigators because he believes most of his activity was already documented.

Archbishop John Nienstedt’s deposition was made public on Tuesday. He said he doesn’t believe the church mishandled any abuse allegations, and noted Rev. Kevin McDonough was responsible for problem priest notifications.

The Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis released videos of McDonough's deposition in 15 individual links that purport to show the questions posed and his answers in their full context.
