Fr. Angel Perez

The family of the boy who was molested in 2012 by Father Angel Perez, a priest who was serving in Woodburn, is suing the Archdiocese of Portland and the parish in Woodburn for $8.5 million, the Oregonian reports.

Father Perez is serving a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to first-degree sexual abuse, driving intoxicated and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Originally from Mexico, he may be deported after he serves his sentence at Two Rivers Correctional Institute in Umatilla. The Archdiocese said the church repeatedly reached out to the boy and his family to apologize and offer pastoral assistance. The family’s attorney refused all offers, the archdiocese said. The civil lawsuit seeks money for the boy’s “permanent emotional injury” and “physical and emotional trauma.”
