Vatican City, April 28 - A three-day meeting of the Council of Cardinals steering wide-ranging reforms to the Rome Curia, began Monday with Pope Francis, the Vatican press office said. Pope Francis has taken part in much of the work, coordinated by Honduran Cardinal Oscar Rodriguez Maradiaga, leaving only for public commitments including general audiences and meetings with international figures, the press office said. The council of eight cardinals, which has been informally dubbed the C8, has been closely studying changes to governance of the Catholic Church as well as possible reforms to the constitution of the Vatican City State, known as Pastor Bonus, instituted in 1988 by Pope John Paul II. Sources have said that the cardinals are not working under a tight deadline but instead are expected to take enough time for an in-depth study. Pope Francis has been making some wide-ranging reforms to Vatican organizations, including the scandal-tainted economic administration and the Vatican Bank, changes in the senior hierarchy of the Church, as well shaping new policies to deal with sexual abuse by priests. http://popefrancisnewsapp.com/
