EF Academy buys property from Legion of Christ on Columbus Avenue in Thornwood for campus expansion.

Says Headmaster Brian Mahoney: "It's truly an exciting time for EF Academy. I hope to be welcoming you personally to our newest "home" in New York."

CBRE Group's Westchester/Connecticut office handled the sale and made the announcement Thursday morning. The CBRE team of William V. Cuddy, Jr., executive vice president, and Budd Wiesenberg, vice president, represented the seller, Legion of Christ, in the transaction.

"As expected, the Thornwood Conference Center attracted significant interest from a diverse mix of potential buyers. We worked closely with the ownership of this gem to identify a buyer, and are happy with the end result," Cuddy said in a press release.

EF Academy International Boarding Schools, an international private high school, offers American and international students the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The two buildings on the site total 410,000-square-feet in space and include a number of amenities such as a cafeteria and dining room, 300-seat auditorium and conference center, dormitory-style rooms, landscaped courtyard, indoor recreation center, tennis courts and jogging trails.

The school offers classes for grades 9 to 12 and currently has 580 students from 75 different countries, according to its website.

"With the infrastructure in place at the Thornwood Conference Center, a conversion to an educational use, with boarding for students, was identified early on ideal for this unique property and we launched a targeted marketing campaign tailored to reach this community," Wiesenberg said.
