GAYLORD, Mich. (WOOD) – A local Christian radio personality has been arrested on a state criminal sexual conduct charge, according to federal authorities.

WCSG’s John Balyo was arrested Friday at a Christian music festival in Gaylord following an investigation by Michigan State Police, Battle Creek police and Homeland Security Investigations, authorities said.

“We see violators from pretty much all social-economic statuses and all professions, it’s amazing what we see, so we’re really not too surprised anymore,” a Homeland Security agent told 24 Hour News 8

As part of the investigation, police raided Balyo’s home in Caledonia, searching his house and a car in the garage.

Federal authorities said Balyo, 35, is facing a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. Balyo allegedly paid a man identified as the subject of a separate HSI child pornography investigation to arrange sexual encounters with minor victims.

“We’re really going to be looking to put this guy away for most of his life,” the agent said.

The man Balyo allegedly paid is Ronald Moser, according to police.

“They would meet in hotels in areas around Grand Rapids and Balyo would have sex with the children,” according to the HIS agent.

According to court documents, Moser had a profile on a foreign child porn web site. He went by the user name “JAYBOY33.”

Documents show Moser had seven photo albums filled with dozens of pictures of several different boys. The pictures allegedly show one boy face down on a bed, wearing little clothing and his hands and feet are apparently bound.

Documents show Moser also had a statement on his profile that read “Looking for people in or around Michigan that are into kids.”

“I love him that is all I can say. I do not agree with what he did, but I do love him,” Moser’s dad told 24 Hour News 8.

On June 5, Battle Creek Police and Federal investigators raided Moser’s home.

Moser was at the home in Battle Creek with a 12-year-old boy when police arrived.

“Never have, never will cope with what he done,” Moser’s dad said.

During the search of the home, they found a cell phone in the bedroom. That cell phone contained pictures of the 12-year-old boy masturbating, according to court documents.

Authorities say Moser told them he had taken those photos earlier that day.

“Surprise? It’s more like getting stabbed in the heart,” his dad said.

Investigators are working to identify any other potential victims.

Balyo is facing a charge of first-degree sexual assault involving a child, in Battle Creek. Feds say they will also seek charges of manufacturing child porn against Balyo.

Co-workers at WCSG said they were shocked and didn’t believe the allegations.

“We’ve have parents that don’t believe it when they’ve seen the child porn on computers. We’ve had friends, family members, wives, husbands stand by their loved ones. And a lot of times people, they just can’t accept it until it comes to the point in time where they’re looking at 30 years in prison,” the agent said.

Chris Lemke, the general manager of Cornerstone University-owned WCSG, issued the following statement Friday afternoon:

“We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the arrest and allegations against John Balyo, WCSG morning radio host. He has been put on indefinite paid administrative leave pending further investigation and the legal process. Our thoughts and prayers are with those involved in the investigation.”

“It is disturbing. And it seems to be more disturbing because we just keep seeming to be running across it more and more,” the agent said.

Moser was indicted earlier this month, arrested at his home on charges of possession and production of child pornography.
