Jonathan D. Masteller

A former local pastor and junior-high basketball coach has admitted to repeated sexual abuse of a 13-year-old boy.

Jonathan Masteller, 24, pleaded guilty Thursday to numerous felonies regarding the abuse which happened in 2012 and 2013 at his home in Kinzers.

He faces a mandatory 10-year prison term at sentencing, but the judge has the option of running up to 11 other charges consecutive to that term.

Masteller, in prison on $250,000 bail, will be sentenced after a background check is completed in about two months.

He was formerly head junior high boys’ basketball coach at Pequea Valley School District and a substitute teacher there.

The district terminated him in December 2013, when state police Trooper Linda Gerow filed charges.

Masteller also was a youth pastor at Gap Community Church. The church also dismissed him when charges were filed.

Masteller knew the victim through his positions as coach and youth pastor, court documents show.

Police reported that Masteller had sexual contact with the teen on at least six occasions.

Lancaster County Senior Judge Louis Farina accepted Masteller’s guilty pleas to four counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse — the most severe charges.

Masteller also pleaded guilty to indecent assault, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and possession of child pornography.

Police recovered numerous lewd videos and images on Masteller’s computer.

Defense lawyer Joseph P. McMahon represents Masteller. Assistant District Attorney James Reeder is lead prosecutor.
