A former New Canaan Sunday school teacher avoided jail but must register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male Friday at Norwalk Superior Court.

Morgan Frawley, 26, received a 10-year suspended prison sentence and 10 years of probation after pleading guilty to risk of injury of a minor. Should she violate her probation, she would be subject to serve all or a portion of her 10-year suspended sentence. She must also register as a sex offender for 10 years.

Frawley was ordered to stay away from persons under the age of 16 nor can she have any contact with the victim or his family. She must also undergo mental health treatment.

New Canaan Police arrested Frawley in October 2013 after a six-month investigation into an inappropriate relationship between Frawley and a teenager.

The allegations against Frawley came to light on April 23, 2013 after New Canaan Police were contacted by the Department of Children and Families, reporting that Frawley, who was a church youth group leader at the Congregational Church of New Canaan, was having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male youth.

Investigators recovered numerous text messages between the teen and Frawley in which graphic sexual acts were described, court documents show.

Police also allege that they discovered that Frawley had sexual contact with the teen.

She was initially charged with second-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor.
