Muscle Shoals Police, Church Pastor Discuss Arrest of Former Youth Minister

More details emerged Thursday about the arrest of a former youth minister in Muscle Shoals. The man was arrested in Texas, after moving there a few years ago.

The former youth minister, Charles Kyle Adcock, was arrested Wednesday in Frisco, Texas. He is charged with nine counts of sodomy and 22 counts of rape. The alleged acts took place in Muscle Shoals, and authorities in Colbert County are working to bring him back to face charges.

Muscle Shoals Police say the victim is a female who was under the age of 16 when the incidents took place between 2010 and 2012. Police say some of the incidents happened at the church and others took place at his residence in Muscle Shoals.

Adcock was with Woodward Avenue Baptist Church from December 2008 until May 2012.

Church’s reaction

Dr. William Rushing, senior pastor at the church, talked with WHNT News 19 on Thursday about the situation. He said the church addressed it at a service on Wednesday evening.

“The church as a whole was shocked. You have a lot of people who knew him, who put their trust in him,” said Dr. Rushing. “There were lots of tears at our service.”
