Disgraced Anglican minister John Dinn and his wife Catherine were sentenced in provincial court today. VOCM's Andrew Hawthorn reports.

The now unlicensed Reverend Dinn was given 60 days house arrest plus a year's probation and mental health counselling, while Catherine was given a conditional discharge, requiring them both to pay back the remaining $1,600 within the year.

Judge Mike Madden said when sentencing he had taken into account the fact that much of the money had already been paid back, and that Catherine Dinn was now the sole provider for her husband and children.

Former parish treasurer Ken Carter says the entire situation has been disheartening for everyone involved. He says it shouldn't be forgotten that this money was for charity. He says it's the end of a long, drawn out process, and many parishoners are just happy to have it over. He says the congregation is ready to move forward.

Dinn and his wife had pleaded guilty to theft and defrauding the parish of St. John the Evangelist in Topsail for over $9,000.
