Vatican City, September 25 - Pope Francis has removed a bishop in Paraguay accused of embezzlement and covering up complaints of sexual abuse in his parish. Rogelio Ricardo Livieres Plano, from the diocese of Ciudad del Este in Paraguay, has been replaced by an "apostolic administrator," Msgr. Ricardo Jorge Valenzuela Rios, the Vatican said in a statement on Thursday. The move follows the arrest on Tuesday of former archbishop Jozef Wesolowski, who the Vatican said faces six or seven years in jail if he is found guilty of sex abuse of children while he was the papal nuncio or ambassador in the Dominican Republic. Pope Francis has vowed to take a hard line with cases of child sex abuse. He is seeking to repair some of the damage done to the Catholic Church's image by a long series of clergy paedophilia scandals in many parts of the world in recent years.
