MUSKEGON, Mich. (WOOD) — A Muskegon County man is accused of sexually assaulting several boys three decades ago.

A 24 Hour News 8 crew was in court Friday morning as 60-year-old Randall Doctor was brought in.

24 Hour News 8’s sources say Doctor met his alleged victims as the leader of the Cadets program at Fifth Reformed Church. He may have molested anywhere from five to 10 boys in the 1970s and 1980s.

Doctor is not currently facing sexual assault charges — but rather manufacturing marijuana charges. As police executed a search warrant in the sexual assault investigation, they found pot plants at Doctor’s home.

Doctor’s defense attorney told 24 Hour News 8 his client cannot be charged with the alleged sexual assaults because the statute of limitations has run out.

A judge has set Doctor’s bond at $50,000 after the prosecutor asked for it to be increased due to the primary investigation.

News 8 spoke with one of his alleged victims who went to Cadets when Doctor was a leader for the program.

“He was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. He used the church as his hunting ground and we were his prey,” said Brad White.

White and another one of Doctor’s alleged victims told police the former church leader would take them for rides in his semi-truck during which he would give them drugs and alcohol.

“He would take us out in the woods after driving the semi and he would do terrible and horrendous things to us,” White said. “He would give us marijuana, speed and alcohol. To this day I can’t look at a bottle of Michelob without thinking about him, because that is what he always had.”

White said it took him about three decades to tell authorities because he felt ashamed and didn’t want to deal with the stigma attached with being sexually abused.

“You could have tortured me and I would have never said that anything happened,” said White. “As a child, I mean, I didn’t know what to do. He groomed us and he manipulated us and you know. He altered the course of my life.”

After the alleged abuse, White said he became addicted to drugs and alcohol.

“The drugs he gave us, I ended up giving someone else a prescription drug and they died. And I spent 18 years of my life in the Department of Corrections because of it,” said White.

Soon after he was released this Fall, White said he wanted to kill Doctor. He said he did some drugs, got into a car and started to drive towards where Doctor lived. On his way, White blacked out and needed to be revived by first responders.

Because White had drugs in his system, he was arrested and placed back in a Michigan Department of Corrections facility, where he spoke to 24 Hour News 8 Friday.

“Everything was going just wonderful. I had a special release from parole on the day I decided he had to die. By the grace of God I didn’t go through with it,” White said. “Had I done what I was going to do that day I wouldn’t be here talking to you. And I’m not a killer.”

White said he spoke with News 8 hoping to encourage other potential, more recent victims to come forward which would give prosecutors the ability to charge Doctor with sexual assault.

“Please, please come forward and help police and prosecutors put this person away. You can stay anonymous and no one has to know. Think about if you don’t, the next person in line is going to suffer like we have suffered and we can’t allow that to happen.”
