Sama decyzja o utworzeniu punktow kontaktowych pojawila sie juz w Kosciele w sierpniu 2014 roku.

/Father Adam Zak, since 2013 a coordinator of episcopate for children and youth protection, introduced the Church’s plan of financing of 4-5 contact points for the victims of clergy abuse . First points should be opened “until the end of summer 2015”, according to KAI (Catholic Information Agency). The decision about establishing contact points was made in August 2014.

A w takich katolickich rodzinach rowniez czesto odbywa sie dramat pedofilii.

Kiedy wracaja do kraju nad Wisla, widac w nich duza zmiane w podejsciu do tematu! Naszym zdaniem, dobrym pomyslem byloby przeszkolenie kazdego pojedynczego duchownego, nawet jesli nie odbywa on podrozy za Ocean.

We think the idea is good because:

- first, many victims of sexual abuse by the clergy seek for help in the Church. The Church is often the first institution they expect to get support from. Until recently, priests’ victims were pushed away, thus we are happy that it is starting to change. It is a shame that it happens so late but it gives hope for the future.

- second – probably the saddest – there are no contact points for sexually abused (including victims of the clergy) in Poland run by the government. Paradoxically, by creating such points, out conservative Church would seem more progressive and social than Polish government.

- third, every initiative of help for Survivors is good. Of course, some of them will refuse to use Church’s help – and they have every right to do so. It is common that emotions connected to Church are too intense for the Survivors to have anything to do with it. Such persons should have support from the Polish government.

There is one main drawback of this idea that we can point out:

The contact points will be intended only for persons abused by the clergy. However, the Church means also the people, thus – Catholic families. The families where often the children are sexually abused. In our opinion the planned contact points should have the door opened for the victims from Catholic families.

Priests do not come out of the blue, they come from society (the seminary can only highlight certain distortions). Healthier society means healthier priests – thus we should at the problem more broadly.

What else can be improved…

We are glad that the contact points will be a part of the prevention programme in the future (according to KAI). Healing wounds is too less – it is important to prevent further crimes.

From our own experience we know that priests do not receive training on bad touch. Such a training is obligatory only for priests who are going to work in the USA. When they come back to Poland, their attitude to the topic is completely different! In our opinion it would be a good idea to train every single clergyman, even if he is not going to travel to America.
