Tonight, with the help of the Metropolitan Congregations United, the Youth Council of Old North St. Louis is holding a public meeting about what they say are two “unsafe and rundown” parks in the area. They’ll demand repairs from Parks Director Dan Skillman via a petition. . .About 150 years ago, Missouri emancipated its slaves. Freedom! But blacks could still not vote, own property or vote. . .Hard to fathom, but the pithy Minnesota firm paid a measly $15 million for the American, Mayfair, The Tower and the Board of Ed. Bldg. . .One of the first to accuse a local priest for alleged child sex crimes, Kathy Woodard, has died. Kathy was outed by name by Catholic officials in the St. Louis Review. How cruel!. . . Last fall, another long time SNAP leader, Tom Mullen, passed away. He chaired SNAP’s support group here for many years. . .Meanwhile, a Franciscan priest who once worked in East St. Louis has been named auxiliary bishop of New Orleans.
