Following the news that the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has filed for bankruptcy, dozens of parishes across the Twin Cities are now bracing for the worst.

Archbishop John Nienstedt made the announcement on Friday. He claimed filing for Chapter 11 reorganization would not hurt local churches.

About 50 have hired bankruptcy attorneys.

The archdiocese filed for bankruptcy in the face of dozens of claims of clergy sexual abuse.

Archdiocese leaders say the reorganization will allow the church to compensate victims equitably, while still continuing its mission.
