The historical allegations are being investigated.

Alleged victims have come forward claiming to have been sexually abused at a Marist Brothers boarding school in country Victoria.

The male students were aged between 11 and 15 at the time of the alleged abuse.

They have spoken to police claiming they were sexually abused while at St Patrick's College in Sale during the 1970s and 1980s.

Detectives from the unit set up to investigate historical cases of sexual assault say the Catholic school was set up as a boys only boarding school at the time when the incident occured and there may be others outside the Sale area who may have been affected.

Sano Taskforce Detective Inspector Stephen Dennis said people who prey on children would be investigated no matter how many years have passed.

"While we have had complaints at this time, we suspect there may be other victims out there who have not come forward," he said.

"We will have detectives in the Sale area this week investigating these complaints.

"It's never too late for people to come forward with these allegations.

"We have police that specialise in looking into incidents of this nature that occurred decades ago."

Anyone with information is urged to call the Sano Taskforce toll free line on 1800 110 007.
