Loch Ness: Fort Augustus Abbey in Highlands.

A former priest at a Highland abbey has appeared in court on six charges of assaulting pupils to their injury.

Father Benedict Seed taught chemistry at Fort Augustus Abbey before the Loch Ness boarding school closed in 1999.

The 82-year-old appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court before Sheriff Margaret Neilson under his real name of Thomas Seed.

Seed made no plea or declaration and was released on bail.

He was born in Berwickshire and joined Fort Augustus Abbey in 1950, where he served as both house master and headmaster.
