Henry Moloney

A paedophile priest was housed at a Tipperary boarding school while on trial for abusing a student there.

77-year-old former priest Henry Moloney was staying at Rockwell College last week during a criminal case which was taken by a former student, reports the Irish Daily Mail.

In 2009 Maloney pleaded guilty in the Circuit Criminal Court to abusing pupils at St Marys College in Rathmines between 1969 and 1973.

He was handed a suspended sentence due to ill health and as he was already under strict supervision.

In 2000 he was caged for 15-months for sexually assaulting two other boys at St Mary’s in the early 1970s.

Maloney had been dean of discipline and junior form tutor at the school where he also coached boys in rugby.

The vile paedophile was found guilty of seven counts of indecently assaulting a pupil at Rockwell boarding school when he was working there as a choirmaster in the 1980s.

He is due to be sentenced on the 15th of December.

The Mail reports that the Holy Ghost Fathers, which run the school, said that they didn’t inform the board of management or the school’s principal that the paedophile was bunking in the secondary school.

A spokesman for the order said “It was not deemed necessary to do so,” when asked why they didn’t inform management that a convicted paedophile was on the campus.

He said that St Joseph’s residential unity is totally separate from Rockwell College and is accessed via a separate entrance.

However he did admit that Moloney didn’t always use the separate entrance.

In 2010 Moloney posted to the blog “Catholic Answers”: “The vast majority of child sexual abusers cannot be rehabilitated and they are and will remain a danger to children as long as they live.”
