Christopher Bosworth was sentenced at Basildon Crown Court

A former Catholic priest and psychiatric nurse has been jailed for more than 14 years for a number of historical sexual offences committed against men in Essex and north-west London.

Christopher Bosworth was arrested at his home in Wales by detectives from Essex Police in September 2012 following allegations of sexual assault dating back to the 1980s.

Bosworth, 57, from Cae Greynor in Tycroes, was convicted of three counts of indecently assaulting a man, one count of indecently assaulting a man, two counts of conspiring to sexually assault a man, one count of sexually assaulting a man and one count of perverting the course of justice.

The four victims in the investigation were in the Wickford area of Essex and the Willesden and Kingsbury areas in London in the 1980s and 1990s.

Basildon Crown Court was told Bosworth was a psychiatric nurse in Kingsbury where he committed offences against two of the male victims. He was also Catholic priest in Willesden at the time of the offences.

He denied the charges but was found guilty following a three-week trial at Basildon Crown Court.

Afterwards, Detective Sergeant Danny Walker of the Sexual Offences Investigation Team based in Rayleigh, paid tribute to the four victims.

"They showed great courage in coming forward and giving evidence against the defendant who had taken advantage of his position in order to sexually abuse them when they were vulnerable," he said.

"The sentence received accurately reflects the seriousness of the offences and the impact it has had on the victims."
