‘Spotlight’ Wins SAG Award For Outstanding Performance By A Cast In A Motion Picture

What a gang! The cast of ‘Spotlight’ took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance By A Cast In A Motion Picture. With stars like Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, and Rachel McAdams, it’s hard to deny that ‘Spotlight’ totally deserved it!

The lineup of films nominated for this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards was chock-full of incredible casts, but it was the ensemble in Spotlight that caught the attention of the voters. The Spotlight squad, including Michael Keaton, Rachel McAdams, and Mark Ruffalo, was honored for their amazing performances in the film with the award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture! As if the names in the cast aren’t enough to justify their win, their acceptance speech certainly did!

The first Spotlight star to step up to the mic was Mark, who was pleasantly shocked by their win. In fact, all he could say at first was “No way”! He made sure to point out how honored he was to be part of the film, then handing things over to Michael who closed out the speech — and the night — in an epic way.

“This is for the survivors. This is for the disenfranchised everywhere. This is for the powerless, this is for the powerful that take advantage of the powerless,” Michael passionately said. “There’s fair and there’s unfair, and I’m always going to vote for the fair. I’m always going to vote for the good guys.”

Being recognized as the best cast is obviously a major honor, but Spotlight‘s win is an even bigger deal because of the competition the film was up against. Beasts Of No Nation, The Big Short, Spotlight, Straight Outta Compton, and Trumbo were also nominated for the award, proving that Spotlight‘s cast really was outstanding!

Considering Spotlight is up for Best Picture at the Oscars, this SAG win is huge. Clearly the guild thought that they were a phenomenal cast that made for a great film — and being recognized for that just one month before the Feb. 28 Oscars can only help their chances of taking home one more impressive award!
