Erazo

A Montgomery County pastor accused of sexually abusing his young niece pleaded guilty to the actions Monday.

Delso Erazo, who pastored Iglesia Cristiana La Nueva Jerusalen off FM 2920 in Spring, will spend 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to two second-degree felony counts of indecency with a child. Erazo, 70, will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life upon his release from prison.

“Prison time was an excellent resolution in this case,” Prosecutor Laura Bond said. “It was a case that’s even bigger to us even now based on his position in authority in the church in the community.”

Erazo pleaded guilty to sexually contacting his niece for almost 10 years starting when she was six years old, according to court records. The abuse would occur in a residence in the 100 block of North Burberry Park Circle in Spring.

The girl was afraid about coming forward for fear that she would be punished for her role in the sexual abuse. But as Erazo was groping her on one occasion, she reportedly screamed for help, which grabbed the attention of her mother who was just upstairs.

The girl gave a victim impact statement to Erazo on Tuesday, letting him know the toll his actions took on her. Bond said the girl, now 15, is still working through emotional issues plaguing her stemming from Erazo’s abuse.

“She was very courageous because she stood up and told him the damage that (he) had done to her basically over a period of nine years,” Bond said. “(She told him of) the impact it had on her family, and that she’s glad he’s finally taken responsibility and is being punished.”

Erazo was set for a jury trial Monday when he pleaded guilty. Bond said he changed his mind just before jury selection Monday.

Erazo’s attorney, Cervantes Cruz, was unable to be contacted by press time.
