Chances are, you're at or near a TV, paying varying degrees of attention to the 2016 Oscar winners, hosted by the often funny and always controversial Chris Rock. (Who, yeah, spent some time chatting about #OscarsSoWhite.)

This year's Oscar Awards holds a special level of interest if you're a Massachusetts resident or native: Spotlightthe portrayal of the 2001 Boston Globe shakedown of the rampant child molestation occurring within the Roman Catholic Church (and even more so, the subsequent systemic cover-up), is up for a host of awards, including Best Picture, Actor in a Supporting Role, Actress in a Supporting Role, Directing, Film Editing and Writing (Original Screenplay).

Early in the show, Spotlight won an Oscar for Writing (Original Screenplay). At its conclusion, the film took home the award for Best Picture.

Rachel McAdams lost to Alicia Vikander of The Danish Girl for Best Supporting Actress. Mad Max: Fury Road won for Editing. Mark Rylance, Bridge of Spies, beat out Mark Ruffalo for Actor in a Supporting Role.

In a quick, unexpected highlight, Globe reporter Michael Rezendez, portrayed by actor Mark Ruffalo and at the awards show in person, was given a shout-out by Rock.

The entire list of Best Picture nominees for the 88th Academy Awards were as follows: The Big ShortBridge of SpiesBrooklynMad Max: Fury RoadThe MartianThe RevenantRoom and Spotlight.
