A prominent priest, who led calls to forgive the president after the scathing Constitutional Court judgment against him, has reportedly been suspended by the National Interfaith Council of South Africa (NICSA) for allegedly refusing to account for funds.

The Sowetan is reporting that NICSA President Bishop Daniel Matebesi, who is a known backer of the ruling, is also accused of taking the organisation’s members to an African National Congress Women’s League march.

However, the newspaper says the bishop has denied receiving the notice of suspension sent to him on Monday.

Last month, NICSA broke ranks with other faith based organisations when it publically accepted President Jacob Zuma’s apology for the frustration and confusion caused by the Nkandla scandal.
