The Democrat who won disgraced state Senate GOP Majority Leader Dean Skelos' Long Island seat has the backing of a political action committee pushing for enactment of the Child Victims Act.

The Fighting for Children PAC, created by upstate investor and child sex abuse survivor Gary Greenberg, has endorsed Sen. Todd Kaminsky's reelection. Kaminsky, a former federal prosecutor, won the seat in a special election in April.

"Todd's work as a long time advocate for children's issues and rights has allowed him to see firsthand the devastating impacts of child sex abuse," Greenberg said.

Different versions of the Child Victims Act would either extend the time that child sex abuse victims can bring legal cases, or eliminate the time limit for doing so. The Senate Republicans blocked the measures from coming to a vote before the 2016 legislative session ended in June.

Kaminsky, the only incumbent endorsed by the PAC, will face a rematch in November against Republican Chris McGrath.

Senate Republican spokesman Scott Reif had no comment, having previously defended the GOP's efforts to protect child sex abuse victims.

The Fighting For Children PAC recently received a $5,000 donation from Jeff Gural, a New York City developer who also is an owner of two upstate harness tracks.

"Jeff Gural supports our efforts to replace legislators who do not support the Child Victims Act with legislators who will," Greenberg said.

The PAC, which Greenberg seeded with $100,000 of his own money, so far has endorsed 10 Senate candidates and one for Assembly. Kaminsky is the only incumbent to receive backing.
