Tim "Fig Carper arrested

ASHLAND Kentucky State Police have charged a regional radio personality with first-degree sexual abuse in an ongoing investigation.

Timothy “Fig” Carper, 49, of Grayson was arrested Friday and taken to the Carter County Detention Center, according to the Kentucky State Police Ashland post.

Carper is a well-known sports broadcaster for WLGC.

He also is a former youth pastor for a Grayson church.

The warrant for his arrest was issued after a grand jury heard evidence and testimony July 22, according to state police.

He is charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, according to state police.

The arrest follows an investigation dating back to May 2015, when state police charged Carper with harassing communications with an 18-year-old Paul Blazer High School student.

According to a statement from the Ashland post, state police had gotten a report in April of 2015 from the high school about harassment of a student athlete. A detective investigated allegations by the student and found Carper “had engaged in inappropriate and unwanted contact with the student on multiple occasions vial various social media sites and through text messages.”

Carper has been suspended from WLGC without pay pending further investigation, according to station official Jim Forrest.
