Support group for Clergy sex abuse victims

Aug. 9. The confidential support group – for both religious sex abuse victims and for their families – will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 9. The location is not being made public in order to protect the privacy of the participants. SNAP (Survivors Network of Those Abused by Priests) has no affiliation with any church organization and is open to victims hurt in any denomination. MS support group to meet

Free mammograms offered

Aug. 22. Free mammograms for eligible women will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Chatham County Health Department, 1395 Eisenhower Drive. Women 40-64 years old without insurance whose annual income is not greater than 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Level are eligible. Stress reduction workshop planned

Aug. 27. Learn to manage stress and achieve a healthy balance between work and personal life at Vibrant Well-Being: A Workshop for Mindfulness, Stress Reduction, and Work-Life Balance workshop. Free hearing screenings.

Thursdays. The Savannah Speech and Hearing Center, a nonprofit organization serving clients with speech pathology and audiology needs, offers free hearing screenings every Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. at 1206 E. 66th St. Children ages 3 years old to adults of all ages are screened on a first-come, first-serve basis by a trained audiology assistant. Free information on Medicare

GeorgiaCares provides free information and assistance to Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers with health and drug plans the first Monday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon at Senior Citizens Inc., 3025 Bull St. To schedule an appointment, call SCI at 912-236-0363. Applicants must bring a photo ID, Medicaid and/or Medicare card and proof of income.

Caregiver support group

A Caregiver Support Group at 1:15 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month at Edel Caregiver Institute, 6000 Business Center Drive, a program of nonprofit Hospice Savannah Inc. The group provides a safe place to connect with other caregivers. Exchange practical information on problems and possible solutions, and learn about available community resources. Family caregiving course

Hand in Hand is a support system for children in families affected by cancer that helps children deal with the uncertainty, stress and anxiety when a parent or loved one faces cancer. Free HIV testing

The Chatham County Health Department, 1395 Eisenhower Drive, offers HIV testing at no cost from 8 to 10 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays-Fridays. No appointment is needed; results in 15-20 minutes. A follow-up visit, along with counseling, will be scheduled for anyone testing positive. All testing will remain confidential. Info: 912-356-2441.

Alzheimer’s caregiver support group

The organization’s Reach to Recovery program helps breast cancer patients deal with their situations. Volunteer breast cancer survivors act as role models to breast cancer patients by sharing their personal experiences and providing them the opportunity to express and verbalize their own feelings and fears. Take Off the Pounds Sensibly

5:30 p.m. Thursdays. The Woods, 7364 Hodgson Memorial Blvd. TOPS (Take Off the Pounds Sensibly) nonprofit weight loss support group meets every Thursday. Open to those with essential tremor disease, caretakers, family and health care workers. Discusses issues of managing the disease, new treatments and therapies, and maintaining quality of life. Medical Needs Registry

The Functional and Medical Needs Registry is made up of residents who may require transport and medical assistance during a hurricane evacuation and have no other resources such as family, friends, neighbors, or church members to help them if they need to evacuate. Residents must apply to be on the registry. To apply, call 912-691-7443.
