Rally Wednesday to Support Child Sex Abuse Victims Legislation

MOUNT KISCO, NY — The public is invited to join advocates, officials and survivors of child sex abuse in front of Town Hall Aug. 31 to call on New York lawmakers to extend the statute of limitations for child sex abuse. The rally is hosted by Ali Boak, candidate for State Senate in the 40th District, who includes passage of the Omnibus Child Victims Act among her campaign issues. New York’s current laws demand that a victim of child sexual abuse claim justice before their 23rd birthday, she said. But research shows that it takes an average of 21 years for a victim to disclose their abuse. So most victims of child sexual abuse cannot seek justice because the statute of limitations kicks in. The rally begins at 1 p.m. Boak faces off against Andrew Falk in the Sept. 13 Democratic primary. The winner will face Republican incumbent Terrence Murphy, who seeks a second term. New York's 40th District includes the towns of Beekman, Pawling and the village of Pawling in Dutchess County, the towns of Carmel, Patterson and Southeast, and the village of Brewster in Putnam County, and the city of Peekskill, the towns of Cortlandt, Lewisboro, Mount Pleasant, New Castle, North Salem, Pound Ridge, Somers and Yorktown, the town/village of Mount Kisco, and the villages of Briarcliff Manor, Buchanan, Croton-on-Hudson, Pleasantville and Sleepy Hollow in Westchester County.
