Iran’s Top Koran Reciter Stands Accused of Raping His Students

Saeed Toosi, 46, above, one of Iran’s most celebrated Koran readers, has been accused of sexually assaulting a number of his students aged between 12 ad 14 over a period of seven years.

According to this report, Toosi – once descibed an “exemplary model to be followed” by Ali Khamenei, current Supreme Leader of Iran –

represented Iran in the international Koranic competition and won the first prize.

In a television programme broadcasted by The Persian Voice of America, three of his victims said that they have written evidence and audio recordings clearly pointing to Toosi in which he admitted in his own handwriting that his actions were a “mistake”.

In an audio recording , Toosi is heard saying the that Khamenei is well aware of the situation, and had agreed with the head of the judiciary authority Sadek Larijani to cover up the case in order to safeguard the reputation of the Koranic institution in Iran.

One of the victims, a first prize winner in a recent Koranic competition, alleged that Toosi took advantage of him when he was his companion during a competition abroad. He booked a hotel room in which he molested and raped the then 12-year-old.

The victims added that they filed complaints against the Koranic reader to officials in the House of the Leadership after they were were advised to. But officials ignored their claims after they received a “repentance letter “ in which where Toosi admitted his wrondoing and claimed “he is a changed man”.

A later Al-Arabiya report says that a spokesman for Iran’s judiciary, Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, confirmed that Toosi stands accused of raping 19 children and that his case had been passed to an expert judge to decide and rule .

During a press conference, Mohseni-Ejei said that the court had charged Toosi with “advocating corruption” after four victims filed complaints against him .

It’s anyone’s guess whether Toosi will ever face trial because it’s reported that the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution is planning to assassinate him to put an end to the scandal.

It is also reported that Toosi threatened that, if he were to be prosecuted, he would to leak the names of 100 of Iran’s high profile officials who raped and molested children.
