A network for survivors is coming to the Johnstown-Altoona area.

The organization called the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests is starting a new chapter.

"My brother was sexually abused by our parish priest where I grew up in southeastern Ohio," Judy Jones said.

Jones is the Midwest associate director for SNAP.

It's an organization designed to help clergy abuse victims.

"We just feel there is a huge need for support for so many victims that have been abused in the Altoona-Johnstown area," Jones said.

Jones said SNAP is the largest support group for clergy abuse victims.

"What boggles my mind is so many kids have been sexually abused," Jones said.

SNAP has been around for 25 years and has 25,000 members.

Jones said on Feb. 28, SNAP will have a chapter meeting in the Ebensburg area.

"We are here to support the victims, we are here to expose the truth and to help to hold church officials accountable for covering up these crimes," Jones said.

It's a group based off of confidentiality. SNAP is reaching out to anyone molested by religious figures.

Jones said she believes there are many in this area who are in need of help.

"There's going to be more victims coming forward and they need to know that they are not alone and that there is help out there," Jones said.

Jones can be reached at 636 433-2511.
