Since Cardinal Joseph Tobin became the Archbishop of Newark, he has “dragged his feet” in settling credible cases of sexual abuse by Archdiocesan clergy, thus acting contrary to the statements of Pope Francis

It is time for Cardinal Joseph Tobin to justly and fairly settle cases of sexual abuse by Newark Archdiocesan clergy in a timely manner so the victims can try to heal and gain a degree of closure through validation

Who Members of Road to Recovery, Inc., a non-profit charity based in New Jersey that assists victims of sexual abuse and their families, including its co-founder and President, Robert M. Hoatson, Ph.D.

Why Since Cardinal Joseph Tobin became the Archbishop of Newark several months ago, the Archdiocese of Newark has stalled settling cases, thus causing further harm to and re-victimization of victims. The stalling has prevented victims from trying to heal and gain a degree of closure through validation. Contrary to the statements of Pope Francis, the Archdiocese of Newark has ignored the claims of childhood sexual abuse victims through the tactic of stalling. Demonstrators will call on Cardinal Joseph Tobin to settle childhood sexual abuse claims in a timely manner so that victims are treated fairly and justly, thus allowing them to try to heal and gain a degree of closure through validation.
