A Guam priest is accused of raping and sexually assaulting a boy continuously in the eighties, starting on the boy’s seventh birthday, in a lawsuit issued Thursday.

The “Priest”

Father Ray Techaira reportedly raped and sexually assaulted a boy from 1984 through 1987, the lawsuit issued in the District Court of Guam says. Techaira, on the other hand, is now dead, according to the lawsuit.

The plaintiff, who was identified in court documents only as J.A. to keep his identity and image, is now 40 years old and resides in Oregon.

J.A reportedly filed a plea to conduct a jury trial and $5 million in minimum damages.

He claimed that rape and molestation took place at the Nino Perdido y Sagrada Familia Catholic Church in Asan, Guam, the lawsuit says.

Statements

“From approximately 1984 through 1987, around the ages of 7 through 10, J.A. was sexually molested and raped by Techaira more than one-hundred times,” the lawsuit states.

J.A. is filing a lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Agana and up to 50 other unnamed defendants.

This is not the first time for the Archdiocese of Agana to face a lawsuit; the 40-year-old man is the 78th plaintiff to file a sex abuse lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Agana. Three lawsuits did not include the names of the priest in charge.

According to the lawsuit, the sex abuse and assault began on A.’s seventh birthday when he was assisting his grandfather to clean the Asan church and wipe the pews, the lawsuit says.

The Beginning

The priest purportedly asked the alleged victim to head to the Asan parish rectory to see his birthday gift before the first sexual abuse of a hundred took place.

“Afterwards, Techaira gave J.A. $20 and told J.A. that what just occurred should be kept a secret and would make J.A. a ‘good Catholic’.” the lawsuit says.

The rape, however, took place later that year in 1984 in the rectory during the Asan fiesta, the lawsuit says.

“The sexual abuse and rape continued for the next two years, up until J.A. refused to help clean the church and no longer went to the Asan Parish,” the complaint adds.
