UPDATE, 7.30pm: Paul David Ryan, who served in Warrnambool and Ballarat, has been identified as the priest who has been charged with seven sex crime charges.

UPDATE, 3.20pm: A Former Warrnambool priest was served with seven sex crime charges in Western Australia on Thursday morning.

The charges relate to two complainants and include counts of rape, sexual penetration of a child 16-17 years old under care, supervision or authority and indecent assaults.

The 68-year-old former priest has been summoned to appear for a filing hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on August 4.

Earlier: ?A FORMER Warrnambool priest is in the process of being charged with historical serious sex offences involving city schoolboys?, including rape.

Victoria Police Taskforce ?Sano ?detectives last week told two complainants that charges were being issued on summons to the former priest who now lives in Western Australia.

The charges were expected to be served earlier this week.

The case has been investigated during the past two years based largely on information which was revealed during the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.

It is understood the charges relate to allegations involving the complainants during the 1980s when they were students at Warrnambool's Christian Brothers College.

The all-boys school CBC and girls-only school St Ann's, which was established in 1872, amalgamated in 1991 to become Emmanuel College.

The priest also performed the role of school CBC chaplain and went on school camping trips.

The priest has been interviewed by police in relation to the allegations.

The Standard has been in contact with one of the complainants for months and a second complainant contacted the newspaper last Friday.

The taskforce detective heading the investigation has not returned calls in the past two days.
