An Australian court has convicted a pastor of repeatedly raping his wife and he is serving five years in prison, as reported by Daily Mail.

Larry Harris is involved in a denomination of the Baptist church that preaches women must submit to anything their husband demands. As such, Joy Harris said she was raped multiple times a day for decades.

“He thought the more times a day he had it the more of a man he was. It got up to six or seven times a day,” she told 60 Minutes.

Larry, an American who moved to Australia in 1994, preached on behalf of Valley Forge Baptist Church, a church that some former members have likened to a cult, according to Daily Mail.

Joy Harris is finally free from her daily abuse, but her own son, who was raised with the same doctrine, has turned his back on her. According to Joy Harris, he will not speak to her until she repents.

“[Kevin thinks] I’m just as guilty as a rapist, my rapist. I’m wrong; I’m displeasing God,” she said.

Kevin Harris, who is also a pastor at an independent Baptist church that preaches similar beliefs, spoke to 60 Minutes and refused to denounce his father for raping his mother, saying there was “disobedience to the lord on both parts.”

“A lot of that was not proven,” he said, before storming out of the interview. “There was just an admission of guilt for one aspect, other things were brought into it.”

Detective Sergeant Brendan Young, who led the investigation into Larry Harris, was appalled by what he managed to uncover, as reported by 9News.

“It was sexual assault, it was rapes, it was deprivation of liberty, look it was disgusting to be honest,” he said.

Luckily, Joy Harris is not completely alone. She has another son, Jason Harris. He supports his mother, having left the church in 2006, due to their fanatical beliefs.

Jason also spoke to 60 Minutes and condemned his father’s actions and his brother’s beliefs.

“We didn’t realize it at the time completely, but she was a sex slave,” he said. “You can’t tell a woman that was raped it was her fault. It’s evil, it’s evil.”

Larry Harris used a bible verse to excuse his abhorrent behavior.

Ephesians 5:24 reads: “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.”

Joy Harris hopes to have her husband arrested as soon as he is released from prison, on further counts of rape that allegedly occurred in New South Wales.
