Pastor Neil Rischbieter has been jailed for historical sexual abuse charges.

A pastor sexually abused a young girl while her mother was dying of cancer.

Auckland man Neil Rischbieter? also abused another young girl. Both victims cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Rischbieter? was jailed for two years and two months when he was sentenced at the Waitakere District Court on Wednesday by Judge Kevin Glubb, who also lifted his name suppression.

Neil Rischbieter? was sentenced to two years and two months imprisonment at the Waitakere District Court.

Detective Jason Hamblyn of the Waitemata police child protection team said the charges included multiple counts of doing an indecent act upon a female aged between 12-16 years, indecently assaulting a female aged 12-16 years and knowingly making/copying objectionable material.

The charges related to historical offending which took place between 2009 and 2017.

Police said they were first made aware of a complaint in February 2017, he said.

One of the girls' stepmothers said Rischbieter was a man that people "really trusted" and "everyone looked up to".

The girl, who is now 17, was sexually abused while her mother was being treated for cancer, the stepmother said.

"She was so vulnerable and her mother had died. He knew that she couldn't possibly tell anyone, no one would believe her," the stepmother said.

The offending had had a "huge" impact on the victim and the family.

"He came across as this person who helped the elderly, helped people who were struggling.

"It's sickening that he's got away with it," she said.

In the stepmother's victim impact statement she said: "Neil has taken away many memories . . . those memories will never be happy."

He was a "predator" who had abused someone "while her mother was dying", she said.

"She has been scarred for life and I absolutely fear for her future. I have nothing but contempt for this man."

Hamblyn said the victims had been supported by police throughout the process.

"In general, police take all sexual complaints very seriously and there are no time limits to reporting such allegations," he said.

WHO IS NEIL RISCHBIETER?

Rischbieter moved from South Africa in 2008 with his wife and was a pastor at a church on Auckland's North Shore.

He is listed as a director of Carneilovan Limited, an organisation with operated in the residential property industry.

He was also a former director of Stamps Plus Limited, a specialist online factory manufacturing and supplying high quality rubber stamps, embossing products and wax seam products.

In December 2007, Rischbieter and his family were involved in a brutal gang robbery at a home near Johannesburg, South African media reported.

Five men broke into their home where he was throwing a pool party for children from a nearby shelter.

The gang tied up the victims and rounded them up in a nearby cottage where they endured three hours of terror and attacks by the Razor gang.
