WORCESTER - Longtime WBZ News Radio reporter Lana Jones is being mourned after she died Wednesday morning at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

The station announced her death Wednesday and said, “She was an outstanding journalist who will be severely missed by her colleagues and friends in the Boston media.”

Ms. Jones, 62, was also well-known in Worcester for her coverage of the priest sex abuse scandal and her coverage of the Worcester Cold Storage fire. In the 1980s, she worked at WAAF, where she anchored the news and hosted a weekly talk show covering youth issues.

“Lana was the consummate professional who could take a hundred page Supreme Court decision and boil it down into a concise report for our listeners,” Bill Flaherty, WBZ program director, said in a statement. “She knew everyone and everything. She will be greatly missed.”

A native of Toledo, Ohio, Ms. Jones moved to Worcester in 1981.

The station said she died suddenly; no cause of death was given.

She is survived by her husband, Steve Jones-D’Agostino.
