A SEX abuse victim has told how he’d have fled “with the devil” to escape his kids home hell.

The witness revealed he was molested by priests, helpers as well as older boys at the facility run by nuns when he was as young as seven.

The alleged incident took place at Nazareth House in Midlothian

He claimed his complaints were “whitewashed” at Nazareth House in Lasswade, Midlothian.

He added: “If the devil had come and said ‘I’m taking you away from this place’, I’d have gone with him just to get out.

“When I did mention to nuns about things, they said ‘that doesn’t happen here’ and you’d get a beating for it. There was nothing I could do to stop it.”

The man, who can’t be named, told the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry he was targeted by “different priests at different times” over two years in the 1960s.

He added that care assistants “thought they could have a go”.

And older teens forced him “to do things” which made him feel “ashamed” and “guilty”.

Officers have received 308 complaints about 194 people associated with institutions run by the Sisters of Nazareth from the 1930s to 1980s.

The inquiry in Edinburgh continues before Lady Smith.
