Judge dismisses lawsuit against former LDS mission president for alleged sexual abuse

UPDATE: The LDS Church released the following statement about the judge's decision to dismiss a lawsuit against a former LDS mission president. Judge Kimball has dismissed three of the four claims involving the Church. He allowed one claim to remain so the parties can investigate its merits. We remain confident in the legal system to evaluate these claims and determine the truth. As the Church has repeatedly stated, there can be no tolerance for abuse. (KUTV) -- A federal judge has formally dismissed a lawsuit against a former LDS mission president Joseph L. Bishop. The lawsuit against the LDS Church for fraud, however, has been upheld. The attorney for McKenna Denson, the alleged victim, released the following statement about the dismissal: While we are disappointed that the claims against Mr. Bishop were dismissed because of the statue of limitations, we are pleased that the fraud claims against the Church were not dismissed. We respect Judge Kimball's decision. We look forward to the discovery phase of this case. MormonLeaks first released audio in March of McKenna Denson, the alleged victim, interviewing Bishop. In the tapes, she confronted him about abuse when she was a missionary in the 1980s. Bishop was accused of attempted rape in a recording made by Denson who claimed to be a missionary under his supervision in 1984. KUTV learned that Bishop told BYU police that he did ask the woman to expose her breasts to him but denied the accusations of rape. Later, documents revealed how the LDS Church dealt with the allegations. Denson said she "filed a lawsuit against both Bishop and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" in an April press release.
