WHAT

Holding signs and childhood photos at a sidewalk news conference, a clergy sex abuse victim and advocate will

--publicly disclose for the first time that five credibly accused predator priests worked in the Louisville are but have attracted no public attention there, and

--prod Louisville’s Catholic archbishop to add their names to his “accused” clergy list, and

--beg anyone who saw, suspected or suffered clergy sex crimes or cover ups in Kentucky to contact the attorney general who is conducting a statewide investigation into this crisis.

Outside the Louisville archdiocesan headquarters (aka the chancery or “pastoral center”), 3940 Poplar Level Rd. in Louisville KY

WHO

Two abuse victims: a Missouri man who is the St. Louis volunteer leader of SNAP, the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (and the organization's former long time executive director) and an Illinois man who is the group’s Chicago volunteer leader, and at least two KY area victims

WHY

1) These publicly accused priests worked in Louisville, abused mostly outside of Kentucky, but have attracted virtually no local attention. They should be put on the archdiocesan list of alleged predators that Archbishop Joseph Kurtz has pledged to release, SNAP says.

--Fr. Michael (a.k.a. “Miguel”) Baca, who is included in the Gallup diocese's 12/14 list of clergy having credible allegations of sexual misconduct made against them. Besides Gallup, Baca worked in at least one other diocese (Peoria) and two archdioceses (Louisville and Santa Fe.

-- Fr. Crispin Butz

He was named among Franciscan alleged clergy perpetrators of sexual abuse in a 12/14 court documents in Gallup NM. Early in his career, he worked in Batesville, IN and Louisville, KY, then was moved to Sacred Heart Parish in Gallup NM.

-- Fr. Patrick Mackan, who was accused in a 2002 lawsuit of sexually abusing a teenaged

Canadian girl after she had been raped and impregnated by another man. Mackan supervised other priests of his order in the Louisvillearchdiocese.

-- Fr. Paul J. Greenwell who was first identified publicly last year as “accused” on the Santa Fe archdiocese list. He worked in both the Louisvilleand Owensboro areas.

--Fr. Dominic Savino, who was removed in 2002 from an Encino CA Catholic school after allegations surfaced that he abused two brothers and others. He "acknowledged" some incidents and that he had sought therapy and counseling. He was also accused of abusing five high school boys in Louisville, KY from 1966-1973 (where he worked at DeSales High School).

Any of all of them could have hurt Louisville area kids, SNAP says, and some might still live in the area. So Louisville Catholic officials should use parish bulletins, church websites, pulpit announcements and other means of reaching out to those who “may have been assaulted and be suffering in shame, silence and self-blame.”

2) Archbishop Kurtz refuses to post names of "credibly accused" abusers on his website, even though nearly 100 of his peers have done so or pledged to do so. SNAP is outraged by this “reckless, callous inaction.”

3) Finally, SNAP is begging anyone who may have seen, suspected or suffered crimes or cover ups in Kentucky to contact their lawmakers and the state’s attorney general. He is seeking legislative authority to convene a grand jury to investigate all of the state’s dioceses, as roughly 15 of his colleagues are doing, the group asserts.
