How sorry is he? (Ellen Moynihan/New York Daily News)

South Farmingdale, L.I.: In response to “Purged of pervs” (Oct. 1): Really? Cardinal Timothy Dolan expressed that those who harbor mistrust can find it in their hearts to be thankful for the church’s good-faith efforts to right past wrongs. “I’m trying my best to serve my people,” he said.

Let’s get one thing straight, for all of the church’s pontificating, if it weren’t for some victims coming forward and the rest that followed, the church would still be operating in the shadows of human decency and abusing young children. The gates of deception and sex scandals opened up to a widespread massive cover-up with priest reassignments and secret perv priest name lists. The church had not once brought any one of them to justice but kept it all internal and squeaky clean, so as to not upset the parishioners and to maybe lose them.

The church first responded that it was only a small number of priests. They responded wrongly and they knew it. But hey, what’s a little lie when you have a gigantic sex scandal erupting? This was going on for decades.

Then when the real numbers started to surface, what did the church do? Damage control posthaste! They hired the best lawyers and lobbyists, and tried to prevent any laws being passed that would implicate the church for past misdeeds and cost them millions of dollars in compensation the very victims they are crowing about now and saying that they are “helping.” To have such a widespread sex abuse scandal of young children for many decades and the church pretending that for the most part, they knew nothing about it, is more than criminal. Dead on

Rockaway Park: To the recent Voicers who suggested that the Daily News reporting has turned too far left, I pose these questions to you: Is it far left for The News to ignore things that many Americans won’t deny are true? Is it left-wing for The News to report the fact that Republicans in Congress back actions that support racism or white supremacy? Or to report on the representatives in Congress who support the lies Trump has told with their silence? Should the Daily News, or any newspaper, ignore the fact that Trump and the Republican Party have failed to do anything about the gun problem in America when most Americans on the right and left support reasonable changes in the laws? Is it far-left for the Daily News to question Trump’s relationship with Putin and Russia? Finally, is it far-left for the Daily News to expect the president to follow the rule of law? The truth should be reported no matter what side of the political spectrum one chooses. Anthony Johnson

In memoriam

Beechhurst: The Democrats’ media allies, which I hereby christen the bluestream media, have quite unsurprisingly turned a blind eye to Quid Pro Joe’s boastful meddling into Ukrainian politics while serving as Obama’s vice president. They’ve become the propaganda arm of the Democratic Party. In their lust to destroy the Great Disrupter, they’ve buried journalism six feet under. Sadly, the Daily News, which many moons ago used to have a conservative slant, has become one of the gravediggers. James Hyland

The boogeyman

Bronx: Daily News Editorial Board: I’m curious, just how deep your hatred is of the president? Does it consume your daily lives? Does he haunt your dream or nightmares? Has your hate affected your relations with family and friends? Do your find yourselves thinking of him even in the quiet moments? If you’ve answered yes to one or more of these queries, take a step back, concentrate only on your loved ones and how much they mean to you, and how they are far more important than the hate you harbor for one man. Of course these questions apply to most of the mainstream media. Bob Pascarella

Madame President

Manhattan: What if President Trump and Vice President Pence were both impeached and removed from office? The next in line to be president would be the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Mind boggled! Felicia Caggiano

Only the best

Armonk, N.Y.: One of Trump’s campaign promises was “to drain the swamp.” This he accomplished. But he didn’t tell the American people that he was going to scrape the bottom of it and put those he found into his administration. Robert Cappio

Salem revival

North Massapequa, L.I.: Maybe I missed it. Did the House do what is required and take a vote on impeachment? If not, why are most of the news media outlets reporting that the impeachment process has started? Sounds to me like the start of another witch hunt. Sorry to all you witches out there. Steven Malichek

Burn

San Francisco: Back to Voicer Fred Schoeneborn: Good one! But it doesn’t change the fact that your boy’s going down! Covfefe! Jimmy Layton

Colossal, gargantuan

Manhattan: Are all news media editors limited to a one word adjective when describing a particular event, namely, the word “massive"? Finbar O’Toole

Premonitions

North Massapequa, L.I.: My dad was a NYPD first grade detective. He was hurt on the job and had to retire. That was very difficult for him, but I remember him telling me, “Maybe it is time for me to retire — soon the criminals will have more rights than the police.” Sad to say, that has happened. Why was Antonio Williams out on the street? Officer Brian Mulkeen should not have had to encounter him. God bless Officer Mulkeen, his family, and his brothers and sisters in blue. When you see a police officer say thank you. They are very special people who protect all of us. R.I.P. Officer Mulkeen. Therese D. Shirreffs

Legalese

Kew Gardens: To Voicer Andrew Feinstein: It is true that Antonio Williams did not fire the bullet that killed Officer Mulkeen. Nevertheless, had he lived, he could have been found guilty of killing him. It’s called felony murder. If someone commits a felony, and in the process someone else gets killed, the felon can be tried for murder. Milton Freund

Seriously though

Whitestone: I can’t believe that there was an article about the Boston Celtics and nothing on the New York Rangers in the Oct. 3 paper. Jim Reichert

Perspective

Manhattan: Voicer Dennis Pascale: You said that the overwhelming majority of the people you see not paying their fare are people of color. Well, who you see depends on where you live and travel through. I see more whites not paying their fare than I do people of color on both buses and subways. They try to bulldoze past me to get in through the exit gate as I leave. Vanessa Enger
