A former Catholic priest who was jailed for raping a boy at a notorious Victorian boarding school will spend more time in prison for sexually assaulting another child.

Michael Aulsebrook, a one-time deputy principal at Salesian College Rupertswood, is in prison after he was last year found guilty of raping an 11-year-old boarding student at the Sunbury school in 1988.

After the rape, a trial in the County Court heard, Aulsebrook told the boy: ‘‘Get out of my sight, you disgust me.’’

On Monday, the 63-year-old had his jail term increased after pleading guilty this year to indecently assaulting another boy, then aged 11, at a camp away from the school in 1985 or 1986.

County Court judge Gavan Meredith sentenced Aulsebrook to 20 months in prison, and ordered his non-parole period be increased by seven months.

Aulsebrook was the camp director and in charge of first aid when he repeatedly sexually assaulted the boy behind a locked door, after the boy suffered chafing while jumping on a trampoline.

Afterwards, Aulsebrook gave the boy lollies and chips and told him not to tell anyone about what ‘‘we’’ had done.

Aulsebrook is one of a handful of disgraced priests, including David Rapson, Julian Fox and former principal Frank Klep, who taught at Salesian College Rupertswood who have been jailed for sexually assaulting students at the school.

Judge Meredith said the abuse at the camp was a gross and egregious breach of trust that caused the victim, known as D, lifelong damage.

‘‘The fact you were a member of a religious order and camp director meant that you occupied a position of trust and influence over those in your care,’’ the judge told him.

‘‘The faithful expected you to foster and care for those in your charge, not place your own sexual needs above their welfare.’’

D said the abuse had ‘‘made me feel less of a person’’, left him questioning himself, his sexuality and religion, and had negative impacts on relationships with everyone in his life, including his two children. D reported the abuse in 2016.

Judge Meredith acknowledged Aulsebrook’s depression and guilty plea, which spared the victim giving evidence at trial. The former priest felt isolated from his family and religion, but the judge said he was the architect of his misfortune.

Aulsebrook was in 2016 found guilty of rape and jailed but the Court of Appeal quashed the conviction. He was found guilty again at retrial last year and was jailed for 7½ years, for the rape and for pleading guilty to sexually assaulting other children while staying with their families.

He also served time in jail in 2011 and 2012 for sexually assaulting a boy in 1983.

Aulsebrook is no longer a member of the Salesian order and has undergone treatment to rehabilitate himself. The earliest he can become eligible for parole is in August 2021.
