Ex-abilene Church Worker Pleads Guilty to Child Sex Crime, Gets Probation

ABILENE, Texas — An ex-Abilene church worker pleaded guilty to a child sex crime and got probation.

KTXS was the only TV station in court Friday morning when Jeff Berry pleaded guilty to indecency with a child by contact.

Berry was accused of touching the genitals of an underage boy in 1996 when Berry worked for Pioneer Drive Baptist Church in Abilene.

He was sentenced to 10-years deferred adjudication, a $2,000 fine plus court costs and 180 days in jail.

Berry is also not allowed to have any contact with the victim.

He must turn himself in on or before Sept. 20.
