  Priest Recharged

A Roman Catholic pastor has been re-charged with sexually assaulting three boys after the first set of charges were dismissed because of a legal technicality.

The Rev. Armand Ventre, pastor of Our Lady of Good Help Church in Burrillville, was charged Friday with two counts of second-degree sexual assault and one count of simple assault.

"I just think this is ridiculous," Ventre said. "I am innocent of the charges and I will prove that."

Ventre, one of three Rhode Island priests arrested for sexual assault last year, will be arraigned on the new charges Feb. 12, said Special Assistant Attorney General Robert Craven.

Ventre is accused of sexual touching incidents involving three boys, now 17, 16 and 12, at the church rectory and his Glocester home between 1981 and 1984.

The first set of charges were dismissed last week by the state because of a problem with one of the counts.

The reverend had taken a leave of absence following his first indictment last year, but was reinstated by the Providence Diocese after the charges were dismissed.
