A June 18 preliminary hearing date was set Thursday for a Navy chaplain charged with two counts of felony aggravated sexual battery against a 13-year-old girl, prosecutors said.

The Rev. Owen Melody, 54, a Roman Catholic priest, appeared in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for arraignment. He was represented by Peter Decker, a Norfolk lawyer.

"This is one of those cases where I would have no comment," Decker told UPI.

Melody, who has served as a Navy chaplain since 1981, works at the Norfolk Naval Base. He was arrested Wednesday by detectives who said they received a complaint about Melody from the city's Social Services Department.

Melody remains free on $2,000 personal-recognizance bond.
